Enköping lies in Uppsala County, on the plain north of Lake Mälaren and roughly midway between Stockholm and Västerås. From above, the town has a compact historic core surrounded by residential districts, with the E18 motorway and the rail line running along its southern side. Farmland stretches in every direction, and the bays of Mälaren reach toward the town from the south.

The historic centre
The old core forms a compact cluster of streets around the main square and church. It is the densest part of the poster and its natural centre of gravity.
