Fangcun is a town in the north of Jiangsu province in eastern China, in the Xuzhou area. From above, it sits on a wide, level plain divided into rectangular fields, with straight roads and irrigation channels running across the countryside and the built-up area gathered around a few main streets.
This part of northern Jiangsu is agricultural, and much of the land around towns such as Fangcun is carefully farmed. Villages and small towns dot the plain at fairly regular intervals and are linked by roads that often run in straight lines across the fields. Over recent decades many of these settlements have grown quickly.
