Gangolli is a coastal town in Udupi district, Karnataka, opposite Kundapura on the other side of a broad estuary. It sits on a narrow strip of land where rivers meet the Arabian Sea, so water surrounds it on nearly every side. On a map the town is a slender shape, with the open sea on the west and the calm estuary on the east.
Fishing shapes both the economy and the layout. Boats gather at the harbour on the river side, and lanes of houses and coconut groves fill the spit behind the beach. Streets run along the length of the land, cut by short lanes leading down to the water. At the tip, where the estuary opens to the sea, the landform narrows to a point.

Estuary and harbour
On the eastern side a wide estuary separates Gangolli from Kundapura. Its sheltered waters hold the fishing harbour and many boats.
