Haßloch lies in the Upper Rhine Plain in Rhineland-Palatinate, between Neustadt an der Weinstraße and Speyer. With more than twenty thousand residents, it is often described as one of the largest villages in Germany, as it has never taken the title of a town. From above, it does not look like a small village. The street network is broad and dense, spreading evenly across the flat land.
Haßloch is known nationally for two very different things. It is home to the Holiday Park amusement park, and for decades it was used as a test market, with its population's shopping habits considered representative of Germany as a whole. The surrounding landscape is mostly farmland and forest, and the Palatinate hills rise to the west.
