Hindupur lies in south-western Andhra Pradesh, close to the Karnataka border and about 100 kilometres north of Bengaluru. The town sits on the dry Deccan plateau. From above, its older central streets form a compact, irregular core, and newer residential layouts extend outward along the main roads and around the railway station.
Its position on the rail line and highways between Bengaluru and the interior of Andhra Pradesh has made it a trading town for the surrounding area.
