Yelahanka is on the northern edge of Bengaluru, along the main road towards the city's international airport. Its map has several distinct parts. There is an older settlement with irregular lanes, a planned Yelahanka New Town with a more regular block layout, and large open areas taken up by lakes, institutions and the airfield.
The Yelahanka Air Force Station is the largest single shape in the area. Its runway is a long, clean stroke on the map, and it is widely known as the venue for Aero India, the country's major aerospace exhibition. Yelahanka Lake adds a broad body of water just west of the older town.
