Iserlohn lies on the northern edge of the Sauerland, where the Ruhr valley meets wooded hills. Iserlohn was historically an industrial town, known for metalworking, wire and needle making, and later for its hill-country setting. The Seilersee, a small lake on the edge of town, and the Danzturm, a lookout tower on the wooded heights, are local landmarks, and the Dechenhöhle cave lies nearby. The town is also known for its ice hockey club, the Iserlohn Roosters.
