Kahuta is a town in Rawalpindi district, Punjab, Pakistan, in the foothills that rise east of Rawalpindi and Islamabad toward the Murree hills. From above, the terrain shapes everything. Roads wind along ridges and down into valleys, and the town centre forms a compact cluster on the available ground. Terraced fields and scattered villages cover the surrounding slopes.
The town serves as the administrative centre of its tehsil and as a market town for the surrounding hill villages. It is known nationally for the research laboratories located in the area. The main road linking Kahuta to Rawalpindi runs through the hills, and smaller roads branch off to villages across the region.
