Kaset Sombun is the main town of a district in Chaiyaphum Province, in Thailand's Isan region. Its name translates roughly as 'abundant agriculture', which fits the landscape around it. On a map, the town is a compact cluster of streets beside its main road, surrounded by fields, ponds and scattered villages.
The built area is modest, organised around the highway and a handful of cross streets, with temples, schools and markets close to the centre. Beyond the edge of town, the pattern changes to farmland divided by small roads and irrigation channels. Hills rise to the west of the district, forming part of the landscape of Chaiyaphum.
