Khulayş lies in the Mecca Region of western Saudi Arabia, inland from the Red Sea coast and north of Jeddah. It is the centre of a governorate known for farming, with fields watered from wells in the wide valley that runs through the area. On a map the town is a scatter of blocks and walled plots rather than a single dense core, laid out across level, open ground.
