Klotzsche is a district in the north of Dresden, on the higher ground above the Elbe valley. It was an independent town until the middle of the twentieth century, and it still has a character of its own. Leafy villa streets in the garden-city tradition sit next to newer housing, research sites and technology companies.
Two large shapes define its map. To the north-west lies Dresden Airport, whose runway forms a long straight bar. To the east stretches the Dresdner Heide, a large forest whose paths and firebreaks run in long straight lines.
