Kumru is a district town in Ordu Province, in the hills inland from Turkey's Black Sea coast. The landscape is steep and green, with valleys cut by small rivers, and on a map the town appears as a compact centre from which roads wind outward across the slopes toward the surrounding villages.
The Ordu region is well known for its hazelnuts, and orchards cover many of the hillsides around towns like Kumru. Farming shapes daily life here, and the town acts as a local centre for the villages spread across the district.
