Lakhipur lies in the Goalpara district of western Assam, on the low, fertile land south of the Brahmaputra and close to the hills of Meghalaya. On a map the town forms a small, irregular cluster of streets, with roads leading out across a flat landscape of fields, ponds and small streams.
