Liguo lies on the flat ground of the North China Plain, close to the boundary between Shandong and Jiangsu and not far north of the city of Xuzhou. The land here is intensively farmed. On a map the town is a concentrated block of streets inside a wide, regular pattern of field roads and village clusters.
Flat terrain tends to produce straight lines, and that holds true here. Main roads run long and direct, and the smaller streets inside the town follow a mostly rectangular layout. Toward the west, the wider region has lakes and waterways linked to the Grand Canal, which appear in larger framings as broad open shapes.
