Nāndgaon is a town in Nashik district in northern Maharashtra, on the open plateau between the Western Ghats and the Khandesh plains. Its layout is closely tied to the railway: the main line from Mumbai toward the east runs through, and the town's streets sit on either side of the tracks. Around it, the land is mostly farmland with low hills on the horizon.
Like many towns along this corridor, Nāndgaon grew as a market and transport centre for the surrounding villages. Roads from the countryside converge on it, and its older bazaar streets are more tightly packed than the newer residential areas at the edges.
