Neratovice lies in Central Bohemia on the Elbe (Labe), a short distance north of Prague. The map shows a town spread across flat land beside the river. It has a small older core, large post-war housing estates and an extensive industrial area. Roads and railway lines cross the plain in long straight lines, linking the town with Prague and Mělník.
The town's growth in the twentieth century was closely tied to the Spolana chemical works, which occupies a large site along the river. It is still one of the most prominent features on the map. Around it, the residential areas, parks, schools and sports grounds form a more varied, finer-grained pattern.
