North Canton lies in Stark County, Ohio, just north of Canton and south of Akron. Its centre is a compact grid of straight streets, with Main Street running north to south through the middle of town. Beyond this core the pattern loosens into curving subdivisions, cul-de-sacs and school grounds, typical of a small Midwestern city that grew steadily through the twentieth century.
The town's story is closely tied to the Hoover Company. Hoover built its name here making vacuum cleaners and kept its headquarters and factory in North Canton for most of the century. The name is still part of local identity. The town is also home to Walsh University, whose campus adds a large, green block to the map.
