Prievidza lies in the upper valley of the Nitra River in central-western Slovakia, surrounded by the Strážov and Vtáčnik mountains. From above, the map shows a historic centre around a long square, large housing estates of panel blocks built in the socialist period, and the neighbouring spa town of Bojnice right next door.
The region grew with coal mining. Lignite deposits in the upper Nitra valley shaped the economy and the town for decades. Bojnice Castle, one of the most visited castles in Slovakia, rises above the neighbouring town and its park, only a short distance from central Prievidza.
A Prievidza map poster shows layers of history in one frame. The old centre has a clear shape, the estates form large, regular patterns, and the roads run up the valley towards the mountains. With Bojnice at the edge, the print combines town, castle park and forested slopes.
