Raiwind lies in Punjab, a short distance south of Lahore, on the flat, intensively farmed plain of the upper Indus basin. It is best known across Pakistan and beyond as the location of the Tablighi Jamaat headquarters, where one of the country's largest annual religious gatherings is held.
On a map, Raiwind is a railway town first. It is a junction where lines from Lahore divide, and the tracks cut across the town in long straight strokes. Around them, older lanes form a close, irregular core, while newer housing schemes are laid out as more regular blocks. Irrigation canals and field boundaries fill the land between.

The headquarters of the Tablighi Jamaat is on the edge of town, and its annual congregation draws very large numbers of people to Raiwind each year.
