Sakrand lies in the Shaheed Benazirabad district of Sindh, on the flat left-bank plain of the Indus. The landscape around it is almost entirely agricultural, sustained by the canal system that carries river water across the province. From above, the town is a dense cluster of streets and markets surrounded by fields that reach to the horizon in every direction.
Irrigation defines the map. Canals and distributaries run in long, gently curving lines, and smaller watercourses branch off to feed the farmland. Roads often follow these channels, so the countryside is organised around water. Cotton, wheat and sugarcane are important crops in the district, and the field boundaries form a fine, irregular mesh around the town.
