Samāna is a town in Patiala district in Indian Punjab, on the broad and almost perfectly level plains that make the state one of India's main farming regions. From above, the town has a dense, irregular core, and the land around it is divided into large rectangular fields by straight roads and water channels.
Many Punjab towns grew as market centres for surrounding villages, and Samāna follows that pattern. Roads from neighbouring settlements lead into the centre, and older lanes wind between closely built houses and shops. Newer housing has filled in along the main routes and towards the edges.
