Sarishābāri lies in Jamalpur district in the Mymensingh Division of Bangladesh, on the low, flat land near the Jamuna River. From above, the town is a compact cluster of lanes and markets surrounded by farmland, ponds and water channels, with a railway line running through it. The terrain is almost perfectly level, so water rather than hills shapes the landscape.
The surrounding region is agricultural, and rice and jute have long been grown on the fertile floodplain soils. The nearby Jamuna is one of the great rivers of South Asia, and its shifting channels and seasonal floods have shaped life across the district for generations.
