Shanwa is a town in the Simiyu Region of northern Tanzania, in the broad farming country south-east of Lake Victoria. The surrounding land is fairly flat and open, and it is used mostly for smallholder agriculture and grazing. The town serves as a local centre for the villages and farms around it.
On a map, Shanwa's core is small and compact, with a handful of streets forming the commercial centre.
