Shu‘fāţ is an Arab neighbourhood on the northern side of Jerusalem, set on high, rolling ground along the historic road leading north toward Ramallah. Its streets spread outward from that main road, climbing and descending with the hills, with houses stacked closely along the slopes.
The Jerusalem Light Rail runs along the main road through the neighbourhood, a clear, straight line on the map. To the north-east lies the Shu‘fāţ refugee camp, established in the 1960s, whose dense, tightly packed layout contrasts with the looser streets around it.
