Tanza lies in Navotas, on the northern shoreline of Metro Manila. The map shows a place where the city meets the water. Dense residential streets sit on narrow strips of land, while fishponds, tidal channels and river mouths spread across the flat terrain toward Manila Bay.
Navotas is widely known as a fishing centre, with one of the country's major fish ports, and the Tanza area reflects this close relationship with water. Its low position makes it vulnerable to flooding, and dikes and channels are important parts of the landscape.
