Tebourba is in Manouba Governorate, roughly thirty kilometres west of Tunis, on the lower course of the Medjerda, Tunisia's longest river. The town's streets gather close to the river. On the map the Medjerda's looping line is the dominant shape, curling past the town before it continues toward the sea.
The surrounding valley is one of the country's main farming areas, with olive groves, orchards and cereal fields laid out in long parcels. People have lived on this site since antiquity, when it was called Thuburbo Minus. In late 1942 the area saw heavy fighting during the Tunisian campaign of the Second World War.
