Torres Novas sits in the Médio Tejo area of central Portugal, in the district of Santarém. From above, the old town gathers around a hill topped by its medieval castle, with lanes bending downhill to meet the Almonda river. The Almonda river
The Almonda runs through the centre rather than around it, so the town is read from both banks. Its course gives the poster a natural flowing line that balances the tight street pattern.
