Wągrowiec sits in the north of Greater Poland, in a landscape of glacial lakes and low, farmed plains. On a map the town is defined by water. The Wełna and the Nielba run through it, and Lake Durowskie stretches north from the centre as a long, narrow basin with woodland and paths along its shores. Streets fan out from the old market area toward these edges.
The town is known for an unusual piece of hydrology: here the Nielba and the Wełna cross one another, a meeting of rivers that locals point to with some pride. Wągrowiec also grew up around a Cistercian abbey founded in the Middle Ages, and the monastic complex remains one of the town's defining buildings near the river.

Lake Durowskie
A long, slender lake extends north from the built-up area, its shoreline edged with greenery and paths. It is the largest single shape on the poster.
