Xianju is a county in Taizhou, in central Zhejiang Province. Its name refers to the home of immortals, and it is best known for the Shenxianju scenic area, where sheer rock peaks and deep ravines attract hikers from across the region. The county is also known for its bayberries, grown on the hillsides around the town.
The county seat is built along the Yong'an River, in a valley narrowed by mountains on both sides. On the map the streets form a long, compact strip that follows the river, with bridges linking the two banks and newer districts filling the flatter ground. Beyond them the terrain rises quickly into wooded slopes.
