Yuntai is a town in Chongqing Municipality, in the hilly country northeast of the main urban area. This part of the Sichuan Basin is known for its parallel ridges and valleys, long lines of hills running roughly northeast to southwest, and settlements usually sit on the lower ground between them.
From above, Yuntai appears as a concentrated cluster of streets on the valley floor, with roads following the direction of the terrain. Around it, the map shows scattered hamlets, terraced fields and small reservoirs, typical of the farmed hills of eastern Sichuan and Chongqing.
