Auron sits on a broad terrace high above the Tinée valley in the Alpes-Maritimes, part of the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée. From above, the village forms a compact cluster of streets on open, gently tilted ground, which is unusual in a region of steep, narrow valleys.
