Pra Loup lies in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the slopes above Barcelonnette in the Ubaye valley. The resort is split into two main bases at different altitudes, each a cluster of chalets and apartment buildings among larch and pine. From above, the map shows these two settlements linked by a road winding through forest, with lift lines rising toward the ridges that separate Pra Loup from neighbouring valleys.
The ski area connects over the ridge with La Foux d'Allos, forming a larger combined domain. In cycling history the climb to Pra Loup is famous for the 1975 Tour de France, when Eddy Merckx lost the lead to Bernard Thévenet on the final ascent.
