Ahram is the administrative centre of Tangestan County in Bushehr province, set inland from the Persian Gulf on a broad, dry plain. From above, the town is a compact arrangement of straight streets and walled courtyards with a main road cutting through. Palm plantations and orchards press up against its edges and soften the outline of the built-up area.
To the east the land begins to fold into the long, parallel ridges of the Zagros, and the map shows the change clearly. Around the town the lines are dense. Beyond it lies open terrain crossed by seasonal watercourses that run down toward the coast. The contrast between the flat, settled plain and the empty hills gives the composition a strong sense of direction.
In Iran, the Tangestan region is remembered for its resistance to British forces during the First World War, led by local figures such as Rais Ali Delvari.
