Arnsberg Map Poster & Print
Arnsberg lies in the Sauerland of North Rhine-Westphalia, where the Ruhr winds through wooded hills. The historic town sits on a ridge almost enclosed by a tight river bend, with the ruins of a castle at its highest point. From above, that loop of water around the old streets is the most distinctive shape on the map, and one of the clearest river bends in the region.
The modern city is spread out along the valleys. Neheim, the largest district, lies downstream near the confluence of the Ruhr and the Möhne, and other districts sit in side valleys between hills. On a map these appear as separate built-up areas linked by roads and railway along the valley floors, with forest filling almost everything in between.
Arnsberg was long the seat of counts and later an administrative centre for the region, a role it still holds today. Large forests surround the city, including the Arnsberg Forest to the north. An Arnsberg map poster shows how closely the town has followed its terrain, with streets tracing the curve of the river and the contours of the hills.

Castle hill
At the top of the old-town ridge, the remains of Arnsberg Castle occupy the highest ground, with streets stepping down the slopes toward the river on each side.
Valley settlements
Districts such as Neheim lie strung along the Ruhr valley and its tributaries, forming a chain of built-up areas separated by long stretches of wooded hillside.
