The Riv river
The river crosses the town and anchors the composition. Its bends and the open ground along its banks separate neighbourhoods and give the black linework a calm, flowing centre.

Bar Map Poster & Print
Bar stands on the Riv river in Vinnytsia Oblast, in the gently rolling country of Podillia. Its layout is that of a historic market town: a compact centre near the water, streets running out toward the surrounding villages, and edges of private houses with long garden plots. The river threads through the map and gives the whole composition a natural axis.
The town takes its name from the Italian city of Bari. In the sixteenth century it belonged to Queen Bona Sforza, the Italian-born wife of the Polish king Sigismund I and Duchess of Bari, who renamed it after her home duchy and had it fortified. Remains of the fortress still mark the site by the river, a reminder of the town's frontier past.
Bar also gave its name to the Bar Confederation of 1768, a league of Polish nobles formed in the town. A Bar map poster leaves those episodes to the viewer's own knowledge. It shows only what can still be read from above: the curve of the river, the old core and the roads leading out across farmland.

Fortress site
The site of the sixteenth-century fortress associated with Bona Sforza lies by the river. On the map it reads as an open patch among the older streets near the water.
Garden-plot edges
Beyond the centre, streets of private houses are lined with long, narrow plots. This pattern is typical of Podillia towns and gives the outer map a fine, combed texture.

De ce Bar
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
Bar is a place people leave for Vinnytsia, Kyiv or further west and still think of as home. A map of its streets keeps that connection concrete: it records where the river bends and where the old family house stood.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for instance with a surname and a year, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
