Belo Jardim lies in the agreste of Pernambuco, the transition belt between the humid coast and the dry sertão. Its streets are laid out in a long, fairly narrow band. The main highway from Recife to the interior, the BR-232, runs past the town and has shaped how it grew.
The surrounding country is hilly and uneven. From above, the edges of the town are irregular, following ridges and small valleys, and farm tracks lead off into the drier land around it. The centre is a compact area of older blocks around a church square, with newer neighbourhoods reaching out on the slopes.
