Castellar del Vallès is a town in the Vallès Occidental comarca, a short distance north of Sabadell and within reach of Barcelona. It sits between the valley of the Ripoll river and the foothills of the Sant Llorenç del Munt massif, which is protected as a natural park. Its conglomerate peaks form a familiar backdrop to the town.
The map shows an older core with narrow, irregular streets. Newer neighbourhoods have spread around it, and some residential areas are scattered across the hillsides on winding roads. To the west, the Ripoll cuts a narrow, curving valley. To the north, the network of streets thins out as the land rises toward the mountain.
