Ḑamad is in the Jazan Region of south-western Saudi Arabia, on the flat Tihamah plain between the Red Sea and the mountains to the east. From above, the town is a spread of low blocks and straight roads on open ground. Cultivated plots and scattered settlements extend across the plain around it.
The town shares its name with Wadi Ḑamad, one of the seasonal watercourses that run down from the highlands toward the coast. On a map these wadis appear as wide, braided channels that are dry for much of the year, and they decide where fields and roads can run. The mountains of the Jazan hinterland stand to the east, while the city of Jazan and the sea lie to the south-west.
