Daye Map Poster
Daye is a county-level city under Huangshi in eastern Hubei, a short distance south of the Yangtze River. The land around it mixes low hills with lakes and wetlands, including a lake that shares the city's name. From above, the town sits between these features, its streets stretching along the flatter ground between water and slopes.
Mining has shaped Daye for thousands of years. At Tonglüshan, just outside the city, archaeologists found ancient copper mine shafts and smelting sites dating back to the Bronze Age, now preserved as a museum site. In the late nineteenth century the Daye iron mine became a key supplier of ore to the Hanyang Iron Works in Wuhan.
That long industrial history still shows on the map, where quarries, spoil areas and mining sites leave unusual shapes at the edges of town. A Daye map poster combines the ordinary street pattern of a Chinese county city with lakes on one side and the traces of mining on the other.
