Didao Map Poster
Didao is one of the districts of Jixi, a city in the far east of Heilongjiang province, not far from the Russian border. Jixi grew as a coal-mining centre, and Didao shares that industrial background. From above it is a compact urban area in a valley, with a modest street grid, industrial sites and rail lines running between low hills and farmland.
Like much of northeast China, the district was shaped by twentieth-century industry, and its layout is practical rather than decorative. Straight main streets run along the valley, apartment blocks stand in regular rows, and rail lines serve the industrial land. Beyond the edges, rectangular fields cover the flatter ground and wooded slopes rise on the surrounding hills.
