Van der Wijck fort
The nineteenth-century Dutch fortress stands out in plan as a compact octagon, a rare surviving colonial military building and still the town's best-known landmark.

Gombong Map Poster & Print
Gombong lies in the western part of Kebumen Regency in Central Java, on the lowland between the island's volcanic spine and the southern coast. On the map the town is a compact grid of streets surrounded by rice fields, with the main road and the southern Java railway running east to west through the middle and tying it to the rest of the island.
South of town the landscape changes into the karst hills of Gombong Selatan, a limestone area of caves, sinkholes and small valleys that has been studied and protected as a geological landscape. Streams wind out of these hills toward the plain, and the contrast between flat paddies and folded limestone gives the wider map real texture.
In the town stands Benteng Van der Wijck, a nineteenth-century Dutch fortress with a distinctive octagonal plan, later used for military training. A Gombong map poster frames that historic core, the railway and the surrounding fields in a clean composition that shows how a small Javanese town sits within its landscape.

Rail and main road
The southern Java railway and the main road run parallel through Gombong, two strong east–west lines that organise the whole street pattern.
Karst hills
Limestone hills to the south break into caves and small valleys, adding an irregular, wrinkled texture that contrasts with the flat rice fields around town.

De ce Gombong
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
Gombong is a town many Javanese families grew up in, pass through or return to during the holidays. A map of it captures the familiar streets, the fort and the rail line, and makes a quiet reminder of home for those now living in Jakarta or further away.
Add a title, a subtitle and your own coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the colonial-era character especially well. HD files are $9, and printed posters ship on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
