Ḩalḩūl stands on the high ground just north of Hebron, among the most elevated towns in the West Bank at roughly a thousand metres above sea level. The terrain shapes everything on its map. Roads don't sit on a grid. They wind along ridgelines and bend around the heads of valleys, and houses spread down the slopes in uneven, organic clusters.
The town is known for its vineyards and orchards, and grapes from these hills have long been part of local life. It is also home to a mosque traditionally associated with the prophet Jonah, Nabi Yunus, which gives the older centre a clear point of reference. The main north–south road through the southern West Bank passes along the town.
A Ḩalḩūl map poster shows how a hill town grows. The dense core sits on the heights, and lanes branch outward and downhill into looser fields of streets.
