The fortress hill rises near the old centre, and the lanes around it curve and step with the terrain, marking the ancient core from which the city grew.

Istaravshan Map Poster & Print
Istaravshan lies in northern Tajikistan, on the slopes where the Turkestan Range descends toward the Fergana Valley and the plains around it. It is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia; in 2002 it officially marked its 2,500th anniversary. Until 2000 it was known as Ura-Tyube.
The oldest part of the city grew around Mug Tepe, a hill topped by the remains of an ancient fortress. From above, the historic districts form a dense maze of narrow lanes and courtyard houses organised into traditional neighbourhoods, while newer streets run straighter across the lower ground. Istaravshan is also known for its craft traditions, particularly knife-making.
An Istaravshan map poster shows layers of history in its street pattern. The winding lanes of the old town, the rise of the fortress hill and the more regular modern districts sit side by side, giving a map with deep texture and variety, fitting for a city whose history spans millennia.

Old town lanes
Traditional neighbourhoods form a dense network of narrow, irregular streets and courtyards, a pattern that contrasts clearly with the broader roads of newer districts.
Mountain foothills
The city climbs toward the Turkestan Range to the south, and the terrain gives the map a sloping, uneven edge as streets follow valleys and ridges.

De ce Istaravshan
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
Istaravshan appeals to anyone drawn to Central Asia's old cities and to people whose families come from its neighbourhoods. The map captures a place where streets laid out long ago are still part of daily life.
You can add your own title and subtitle, perhaps using the city's former name, along with the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Paper gives the old lanes an archival quality.
