Kandalaksha Map Poster & Print
Kandalaksha lies in Murmansk Oblast, north of the Arctic Circle, at the innermost point of Kandalaksha Gulf, the long arm of the White Sea. On a map the town follows the shoreline and the mouth of the Niva river, with open water on one side and steep wooded hills rising close behind the streets on the other.
It is one of the oldest settlements on this stretch of the White Sea coast. Today the town is known for its aluminium smelter, its port and its station on the railway to Murmansk, all of which leave clear marks on the plan. The Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, originally established to protect nesting eider ducks, covers islands and shores of the gulf.
A Kandalaksha map poster shows a town defined by water and relief: the indented coastline, the river cutting through, the railway threading along the shore and the hills, among them Volosyanaya, rising above the houses. It is a spare, northern image of a place where winter days are short and the sea shapes almost everything.

Niva river
The river flows from Lake Imandra down to the sea through the town, a short, fast course that divides the streets before meeting the gulf.
Railway along the shore
The Murmansk line runs past the town close to the water, a long curving line that ties together the port, the industrial areas and the residential districts.

De ce Kandalaksha
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
Kandalaksha is the kind of town people carry with them after leaving the north: the gulf, the hills, the long winters. A map of it brings that geography into a warmer room and keeps the shape of the coast close at hand.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a year or a family name, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the watery outline especially well. Get HD files for $9 or a printed poster.
