Novopokrovskaya is a stanitsa in the northeast of Krasnodar Krai and the administrative centre of its district. Like many Cossack settlements on the Kuban plain, it was laid out on a broad, regular plan. Long parallel streets run for kilometres and cross at right angles, and deep household plots fill each block. Seen from above, the settlement looks like a carefully ruled sheet laid over flat farmland.
