Oymak lies in the far north of Xinjiang, in the Altay region, where China borders Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia. From above it is a compact grid of roads with low houses and courtyard plots. The settlement sits in a much larger landscape of fields, dry steppe and irrigation lines. The Altay range rises further north, and its slopes give the map a sense of scale well beyond the town.
On paper the place is simple: a few main roads, the side lanes that link them, and the long rectangles of cultivated land around the edge. Where the built-up area ends, the pattern changes quickly from blocks and junctions to fields and open ground. That clear edge is easy to read in black and white and gives the composition a quiet balance.
