San Salvo lies at the southern tip of Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti, where the Trigno River marks the border with Molise. From above, the town has two parts. The historic centre sits on raised ground a few kilometres inland, with compact streets around its core, and San Salvo Marina stretches along the flat Adriatic coast below.
Between the two, roads run across a plain of fields and orchards, and an industrial area, including glassmaking, sits on the lower ground. The coastal railway and the Adriatic highway pass close to the shore. On the map, the Trigno winds toward the sea at the southern edge of the frame, a soft natural line against the straight infrastructure.
