San Sebastiano lies in Lombardy in the hills north of Brescia, in pre-Alpine country where the valleys narrow and the slopes rise quickly from the floor. On a map the settlement follows the land closely. Streets run along the valley bottom, branch into side valleys and climb in switchbacks toward houses on higher ground.
The surrounding valley, around Lumezzane, has long been associated with small-scale industry, especially metalworking. The map shows this in the way workshops, homes and roads share the limited level ground.
