Contour-following roads
Rather than a grid, the main roads bend with the Tama Hills, producing long arcs and loops that give the poster a flowing, almost topographic quality.

Tama Map Poster & Print
Tama lies in the western suburbs of Tokyo, and its map is nothing like the dense, tangled pattern of the city centre. Most of the municipality was shaped by Tama New Town, one of Japan's largest planned residential developments, begun in the 1960s to house a growing capital. Roads sweep along the contours of the Tama Hills, and housing estates sit on terraced blocks between wooded slopes.
The planners separated people from traffic, so footpaths and pedestrian bridges form a second network laid over the roads, linking stations, schools and parks. Tama Center, the commercial hub, is home to Sanrio Puroland, the indoor theme park of Hello Kitty. To the north, the older district around Seiseki-Sakuragaoka sits close to the Tama River, where the land flattens toward the plain.
A Tama map poster shows a very different Tokyo: organic, looping and open in its gaps. Rendered in black and white, the curving roads read almost like contour lines, and the spaces left by parks and slopes give the sheet room to breathe. It is a map of mid-century planning ideas set against a hilly landscape that refused to be flattened.

Pedestrian network
A web of footpaths and bridges runs separately from car traffic, connecting housing estates to stations and parks, and it adds a finer layer of lines between the larger roads.
Tama River edge
Along the northern side the hills give way to flatter ground near the Tama River, where older streets and rail lines contrast with the planned town on the slopes.

De ce Tama
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
Many people spent their childhood in the estates of Tama New Town, or moved there for green space within reach of central Tokyo. A map of its winding streets and parks is a gentle way to keep that landscape of school routes, station walks and hillside apartments close.
Add a title, a subtitle with a date or a name, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose among five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download 300 DPI files for $9 or order a matte print shipped from a nearby partner.
