Religious core
The centre of town is organised around its mosques and the religious quarter, and the street pattern tightens noticeably there compared with the looser blocks further out.

Tivaouane Map Poster & Print
Tivaouane sits in the Thiès region of western Senegal, inland from the Atlantic on the level, sandy country between Dakar and Saint-Louis. From above it reads as a tight cluster of blocks with a few longer roads leading out through fields and scrub. There are no rivers or hills to bend the pattern, so the town's shape comes from its streets alone.
The town is best known as a spiritual centre of the Tijaniyya Sufi order in Senegal, closely associated with El Hadji Malick Sy, who settled here in the early twentieth century. Each year the Gamou, the celebration of the Prophet's birth, draws very large numbers of pilgrims, and the religious quarter at the centre gives the town its focus and much of its identity.
A Tivaouane map poster keeps all of this in a quiet, readable form: the denser core, the looser fringe of newer housing, and the roads that link the town to the wider region. In black and white, the absence of water and relief becomes a strength, leaving a clean study of how a settlement grows outward from a single meaningful centre.

Flat open plain
With no river, coast or hill nearby, the surrounding land is almost empty on the map, which makes the outline of the built-up area unusually crisp.
Regional roads
A handful of longer roads leave the town toward Thiès and the north, drawing thin lines across the plain that show how Tivaouane connects to the rest of Senegal.

De ce Tivaouane
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
For many people Tivaouane is tied to faith, family and the yearly journey of the Gamou. A map of the town is a restrained way to keep that connection on a wall, whether you grew up here, have relatives in the region, or return each year for the pilgrimage.
You can set the title and subtitle yourself, add a date that matters, and keep or adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the $9 HD files in six sizes or order a printed poster, framed or unframed.
